We want to encourage patients to get involved in how their local GP surgery services are run and can be improved by joining a Patient Participation Group. These belong to GP practices to enable two-way communication with the CCG and discussion about primary care issues and the wider health service. Feedback is given to our Governing Body, and you are encouraged to attend our Governing Body meetings which are held in public.
You can sign up to Your NHS Online Community to receive regular updates about our work and invitations to participate in events and consultations that are taking place.
You can find a full list of consultations, engagement activities, public meetings and events on our Events page.
Our Communications and engagement strategy sets out the CCG’s approach to effective communication and engagement with our key stakeholders and audiences. It explores innovative methods of communications and engagement which will help to develop effective relationships which influence the CCG’s decision-making processes, improve services, and build public confidence in the local NHS.
If you have decided to get involved with the NHS you may need some support. NHS England offers learning and development opportunities for patients and the public who want to better understand the NHS and the role they have in it.
NHS England has also produced a helpful guide with information about how you get involved in primary care commissioning.
Support for public involvement
We are committed to working together with the people of Northumberland to improve healthcare. We value the involvement from local people and patients and believe they should feel supported for their contributions.
The CCG is committed to removing the financial barriers which may prevent people from being involved in issues such as planning strategies, service changes and procurement processes. Anyone who has been invited to attend an engagement event or meeting relating to a specific project or work stream will receive reasonable reimbursement for expenses.
Eligibility and entitlement will be made clear at the point in which people are invited to attend. Please see our Volunteer Expenses Policy for further details.
